Pittsburgh Gallery Guide Website (PGG)

History/Background:

The Pittsburgh Gallery Guide (PGG) is in its 3rd year of existence. It is a grass roots effort to create a printed guide that is distributed and available for free in the city of Pittsburgh. There is currently a distribution of 10,000 guides. The Pittsburgh Gallery Guide wishes to expand its audience and readership by taking their publication to the web as well as mobile devices.

Project Summary:

The PGG website will serve as a central hub for art information for South Western PA (the Pittsburgh Region). There will be a main blog for articles about art, reviews and interviews with artists and gallery owners. In addition there will be a Gallery Listings Search, as well as event listings. The development is targeted toward marketing for the galleries in the Pittsburgh region. Users of the website will be able to read and comment on articles, search for galleries in specific neighborhoods and will be able to search for exhibitions by date or venue.

Future development of PGGOnline will create guided tours that are downloadable to mobile devices. In addition PGGOline will incorporate a PGH Art Classifieds page on the site that will serve users as a bulletin board.

Audience Overview:

According to Visitpittsburgh.org, “Pittsburgh is one of the top mid-sized cities for the arts. There are a range of museums and galleries, from classical to contemporary and everywhere in between.” There also is art in public spaces as well as a burgeoning film industry.

According to pittsburgh.net, an average of 3.9 million people visit Pittsburgh annually.

Pittsburgh ranked in the top five Most Livable Cities in the 1983, 1985, 1989 and 2007 editions of the "Places Rated Almanac."

PPGG’s main target market is the tourist visiting Pittsburgh, who is looking for unique art tours. PPGG will be targeted towards a younger demographic of people who would have access to the latest wireless technologies. The age range is 19 – 40. This group of young people also seeks out unique tours and points of interests. The audience has some disposable income and makes $60,000-$100,000-per-year. Most people in this group possess a Bachelor Degree or higher as well as an appreciation and understanding of diversity.
